Prior to joining the W3C, I was an internationalization consultant attached to Xerox, evangelizing and educating people with regard to the international design and localizability of user interfaces and documents. I also worked on translation tool design.
Prior to Xerox I worked as a software engineer and technical author.
My first degree is in translation and interpreting (French and Spanish, with Russian). I then went on to study Computational Linguistics (speech and natural language processing) at Cambridge University (UK), specializing in computerized translation.
Thanks to Karl Dubost for an initial stylesheet, and Jeffrey Zeldman and Eric Meyer for inspiration in designing these pages. I strongly recommend Jeffrey's 'Designing with Web Standards' book. 'Eric Meyer on CSS' was also very helpful in reducing the potential hours I would have spent in experimentation.
